Several good scores in Round-UP mutton bustin’

ALAMOSA – The Alamosa Round-UP opened the rodeo portion of the event on Thursday as the mutton bustin’ and local barrel race took place occurred.

The mutton bustin’ – for children ages 4-7 was first on the docket on Thursday. The Top 4 in each age group returned to perform again in the Friday and Saturday night performances.

There were nine four-year-olds that competed. Mason Jordan and Reid McDaniel both had the high score as both scored 83 points. Rhyatt McDaniel was third with 81, and Rawley Honeycutt was fourth with 80.

There were only six entrants in the five-year-old division. Elijah Mora had the high score of 90, followed by Oaklyn McDaniel with 86, Ryan Bauer with 85 ½, and Liam Fresquez with 84 ½.

The six-year-old division had the most entries with 16. Lynnlee Claunch had the best score of 97, Bax Plane was second with 90, Hannah Romero was third with 89 ½, and Aubrey Beiriger was fourth with 89. Callan Burns was invited to the rodeo performance as a fan favorite.

There were nine riders in the seven-year-old division. Zane Canty had the high score of 98 ½, followed by Kole Claunch with 98, Kip Claunch with 97, and Koah Sowards with 95 ½.

In the finals on Friday night, Jordan won the four-year-olds with 89 points, followed by Reid McDaniel with 82, Rhyatt McDaniel with 80, and Honeycutt with 79. In the five-year-old division, Mora won with 86 ½, followed by Bauer with 86, Oaklyn McDaniel with 83 ½, and Fresquez with 81.

On Saturday, the six-year-old division, Lynlnee Claunch won with 93 points, followed by Beiriger with 86, Plane with 81, Burns with 78, and Romero with 76. Leading the seven-year-old division was Kole Claunch with 97, followed by Canty with 95, Sowards with 93, and Kip Claunch with 90.

A total of 29 cowgirls entered the local barrel race on Thursday. The Top 10 times entered the Friday and Saturday rodeo performances.

Lyla Gesnick of Mosca started the competition with a time of 18.23 on VooDoo, which lasted throughout the rest of the riders. Gracie Wilson of Center was second in 18.31 on Sticks Fiesta, followed by Bobbi Jones of Creede in 18.33 on Drake Jet Fuel, Raeley Bays of Fairplay on Tuff Dealin and Raelynn Bouet of Saguache on Juno both in 18.40, Hayden Huffington of Fairplay in 18.50 on Jackie Nitro, Addy Malouff of La Jara in 18.69 on Newt, Taycee DeHerrera of La Jara with 18.77 on Taz, Jaelie Jaminet of Alamosa in 18.87 on Sue, and Claire Cook of Alamosa in 18.98 on Stoli My Cat.

Wilson had the best time in the finals with 17.72 on Friday. Jones was second in 18.06 on Saturday, Gesnick was third in 18.19 on Saturday, Bouet was fourth in 18.22 on Saturday, and Bays in 18.31 on Friday.
