ALAMOSA- According to a press release issued by Alamosa County Sheriff’s Office, a 43-year-old Alamosa man wanted on multiple warrants was arrested Wednesday following a high-speed vehicle pursuit and a brief SWAT standoff at a home in Monte Vista, authorities said.
Daniel Mascarenas was taken into custody without injury after the Alamosa Regional SWAT Team executed a search warrant at a residence in the 400 block of Dunham Street, according to the Alamosa County Sheriff's Office.
The incident began around 11:20 a.m. Tuesday, when sheriff's deputies responded to a report of an unwanted person in the 4500 block of County Road 3 South. The caller identified the suspect as Mascarenas and told dispatchers he was at the home in a white Cadillac Escalade.
Deputies, who knew Mascarenas was wanted in connection with several active investigations, spotted the vehicle as they arrived. Mascarenas fled in the Escalade, leading deputies on a pursuit through rural Alamosa County.
The chase ended when Mascarenas abandoned the SUV near Fourth and Morris streets in Monte Vista. Though police dogs, deputies and assisting officers searched nearby fields and neighborhoods, they were unable to locate him Tuesday.
Investigators later obtained information putting Mascarenas inside the Dunham Street home, where he was safely arrested on Wednesday.
Mascarenas faces a long list of charges, including felony counts of stalking, vehicular eluding, possession of a weapon by a previous offender and introduction of contraband. He is also charged with resisting arrest, obstructing a peace officer, second-degree criminal trespass, reckless endangerment and drug possession, along with traffic infractions and domestic violence sentence enhancers.
Sheriff's officials said additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
The Alamosa County Sheriff's Office credited close coordination among nearly a dozen local and state agencies for the safe resolution of the arrest, including the Monte Vista and Alamosa Police Departments, the Rio Grande County Sheriff's Office and the Colorado State Patrol.
