O’Cana, Martinez, Ortiz win at demolition derby

O’Cana, Martinez, Ortiz win at demolition derby

ALAMOSA – The Alamosa Round-UP Rodeo kicked off its activities for the 2026 edition with its annual demolition derby Saturday at the Alamosa rodeo grounds.

There were derbys in three classes – old school, mini cars and large cars. There was also an ATV Motocross barrel race.

There were only three cars entered in the old school event. Kevin O’Cana won the derby with Jerry Honeycutt finishing second and Dominick Cisneros was third. Honeycutt also was named the Most Aggressive Driver.

There were seven entries in the mini car division. Jelani Martinez was the winner, Carlos Romero was second and Charlez Ortega was third. Romero was also the Most Aggressive.

Lance Ortiz won the large car division, Sam Garrett was second and Cisneros was third. Garrett was also named the Most Aggressive.

The barrel race featured riders on motorcycles and all terrain vehicles. Hunter McDaniel had the best time in 17.48 seconds, followed by Tito Bliesner in 19.13, and Dusty Parr in 21 seconds even.

O’Cana was awarded the best decorated car.

The rodeo continues this week. The mutton bustin’ and local barrel race will be Thursday at 6:30 p.m. The PRCA rodeo will start with the slack on Friday at 10 a.m., with the first performance at 6:30 p.m. on Friday and the second performance at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. There will be a block party downtown following the first performance. Cowboy church will be Saturday at 9 a.m., and the Round-UP concludes with a Justin Lawrence concert following the Saturday performance.
