ALAMOSA – Lane Collins, a recent graduate of Moffat Middle School, represented the state of Colorado at the 2026 National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) Open and World Championships. The event took place June 18-20 in Daytona Beach, Fla.

A total of 3,681 competitors participated in the Bullseye and 3-D (animal target) venues.

Collins tied for first place in the country in the Middle School Boys Bullseye Division. He tied with Eli Schleis of Gilman, Wis., and he also placed ninth in the country in the NASP National Open 3-D competition.

Earlier in 2026, Collins won the Colorado NASP Middle School championship in both Bullseye and 3-D in February. In April, he placed 14th in Bullseye and ninth in 3-D at the NASP
National Western tournaments in Sandy, Utah. That enabled him to secure his berth in the National Open.

More than 21,000 middle school boys from across the country and several territories competed throughout the season for a spot in this championship.

“This is Lane’s first year of competition,” said coach Jack Sciacca. “He picked up a bow for the first time in August and had progressed exponentially. His world championship scores are personal bests in both venues. My coaching philosophy is process-based, focusing on building a routine that blends cognitive, kinesthetic, and subconscious elements to minimize variation. Lane is extremely coachable, stays rooted in his routine, and rarely displays nervousness under pressure. It is an honor to be his coach.”

Collins will attend Moffat High School starting in August, advancing to the high school division this coming season. There he plans to compete with his new championship trophy bow.
