DEL NORTE – The Del Norte High School girls basketball team concluded the regular season on Tuesday as the Lady Tigers hosted seventh-ranked Hoehne at the DNHS gym.
The Lady Farmers proved why they are worthy of their ranking as they defeated the Lady Tigers 63-41.
Ellegra Gutierrez scored the first points of the game for Hoehne, but Emma Parra tied the score with a layuo. Gutierrez scored again, but Parra made Del Norte’s only 3-point basket of the game and the Lady Tigers led 5-4.
That would be the only time Del Norte would have the lead. Braylee Foster made a 3-pointer and then she drove for a layup for a 9-5 Hoehne lead.
Alessa Cantoria made one of two from the free throw line, Kayla Crosson and Foster another for a 16-7 Lady Farmers lead.
Brynly Brown ended the Hoehne run and Parra split at the line to bring Del Norte within 16-10 at the end of the first quarter.
Foster scored the first points of the second quarter, but Parra answered with a layup. Alessa Cantoria sparked a Hoehne rally with a three. Foster scored six points, and Phoenix San Roman and Crosson both scored a basket as the Lady Farmers increased their lead to 31-13.
Brynley Brown drove for a layup, but Cross scored another layup. Parra’s layup ebded the first-half scoring, but Hoehne had a 33-16 lead at halftime.
Cantoria made one of two free throws to begin the second half. Parra scored a layup, but Gutierrez drained a trey, and San Roman made a layup to increase the lead to 39-18.
Brynley Brown made a layup and added a free throw. Foster responded with a layup to spark another scoring run. Gutierrez and Crosson both scored four points in the rally, and Hoehne had a 49-21 advantage.
Hadley Leggett made a layup to end the run, but San Roman drained another 3-pointer. Autumn Gallegos scored a layup to bring the Lady Tigers within 52-25 at the end of the third quarter.
Brynley Brown opened the fourth quarter with two free throws, and Parra drove for a layup to reduce the deficit to 52-29.
Crosson abd Foster both answered with baskets, however, Parra and Leggett both scored again. Reese Brown scored in the paint and added a free throw, but Leggett knocked down a jumper to bring Del Norte within 56-38.
Foster and San Roman both scored before Brynley Brown made a layup and also a free thnrow.
Mikenna Dasko hit a jumper, and Gutierrez split at the line to wrap up the scoring.
Parra and Brynley Brown both scored 14 points to lead Del Norte in scoring.
Foster led all scorers with 22 points. San Roman scored 13 and Gutierrez 10.
Del Norte ended the regular season with a record of 12 wins and six losses, and it went 4-2 in the Southern Peaks League. The Lady Tigers will now wait to see who they will play in the first round of the Southern Plains League tournament which begins next week.
