Najera places in three events in 1A state meet

Najera places in three events in 1A state meet

LAKEWOOD – A total of 13 athletes from the San Luis Valley took part in the Class 1A State Meet this past weekend at Jefferson County Stadium.

Sierra Grande

The Sierra Grande boys team scored 10 points with Rolando Najera placing in two individual events as well as being a part of a relay team. On Thursday, he took eighth place in the long jump with a mark of 19-feet, 10-inches. On Friday, he was sixth in the triple jump at 40-3.

On Saturday, Najera, along with Aden Gallegos, Jadyn Martinez and Matthew Trujillo took placed sixth in the 4x100-meter relay in 46.29 seconds.

Creede

The Creede girls team scored two points with Paisley Anderson tying for 10th in the high jump at 4-10 on Friday, and Ava Mankowski took eighth in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 49.88 seconds on Saturday.

The Miners boys team scored one point with Charlie Heinrich placing ninth in the 300 hurdles in 45.46 also on Saturday.

Moffat

The Moffat boys scored 15 points with all three of their representatives placing in their events. Chase Shellabarger took seventh in the shot put with a toss of 43-3 ¼ on Thursday, and Cashel Johnson finished third in the discus at 140-4 on Friday. Javad Taylor placed fifth in the 100-meter dash in 11.50 seconds.

The Moffat girls scored two points with Kandra Pollard finishing eighth in the long jump at 14-10 on Saturday.

Sangre de Cristo

The Sangre boys scored two points with Brody Artaechevarria placing eighth in the 400-meter dash in 53.19 on Saturday.

The Thunderbird girls scored one point as Taylor Freel took ninth place in the discus at 90-0 on Thursday.
