MONTE VISTA – The second-ranked Monte Vista High School baseball team recorded two wins over Del Norte Saturday at Adrian M. Gutierrez Memorial Field.

The Pirates won by scores of 19-0 and 20-0.

“Del Norte’s young but there’s good kids over there,” said Monte Vista coach Luke Bradshaw. “We did a good job filling up the strike zone. Hitting-wise, 1-9 did a good job. We put good swings on baseball. We’re ready to move on and continue to build.”

Pitching also dominated for Monte Vista as it allowed no runs and two hits for the entire doubleheader.

“Pitchers did a great job filling up the zone,” Bradshaw said. “Any one of these pitchers that get up on the mound for us are tough to hit when we’re in the strike zone and filling it up. We have good defense behind it. The goal is always to challenge hitters and let the defense work. Our pitchers did a really good job at that today.”

Azariah Hurtado drew a walk, and Kobe Jiron scored on a wild pitch, and Bouet scored as Monte Vista successfully executed the double steal. Hurtado scored on an error for a 3-0 lead.
