ALAMOSA – The Monte Vista High School boys golf team concluded the 2024 season at the Class 2A State Tournament Tuesday at The Club at Rolling Hills in Golden.
The Pirates recorded a score of 246 in the first round on Monday which was five strokes behind Golden View Classical Academy. They took a three-stroke lead just after the halfway point of the second round, but GVCA mounted a comeback and edged Monte Vista 489-491.
Monte Vista had a second-round score of 245 which was one stroke better than Monday’s first round. The Pirates were led by Kaden and Connor Mellott who both tied for ninth place with a 163. Connor had a second-round score of an 81 which was one stroke better than Monday. Kaden shot an 85 which was seven strokes off the first round.
Also golfing for Monte Vista were Liam Ellithorpe who was 13th with a 165. He had a score of 79 on Tuesday – seven strokes better than Monday.
Jakoby Ross rounded out the Pirates as he placed 66th with a 189. He had a 90 on Tuesday which was nine strokes better than Monday.
Strasburg’s Kameron Gilbert was the individual medalist with a two-day score of 149. He shot a one-under-par 70 on Tuesday.
GVCA’s David Thomson was second with a 152, Wray’s Corbin Sprague was third with a 155, Las Animas’ Damien Baca was fourth with a 156, and Gunnison’s Carson Zummach was fifth with a 157.

Alamosa wraps up season
Two Alamosa High School golfers competed at the Class 3A State Tournament which concluded Tuesday at Walking Stick Golf Course in Pueblo.
The Mean Moose were led by Serjio Najera who finished in 59th place with a two-day score of 168. He shot an 85 on Tuesday which was one stroke off his performance on Monday.
The other Alamosa golfer was Kobe Mizokami who placed 72nd with a 178. He shot an 86 on Tuesday which was six strokes better than his effort on Monday.
Evergreen won the 3A state title with 420 which was 12 under par. The Cougars had a team score of 213 on Tuesday, six strokes off their score on Monday.
Resurrection Christian was second with 437, Basalt was third with 446, Lutheran was fourth with 449, and Peak to Peak was fifth with 451.
Intermountain League rival Montezuma-Cortez finished in eighth place with 479.
Four golfers finished with scores under par. Evergreen’s Tyler Long was the individual champion with a nine-under-par 136. Basalts’ Griffin Didier was second with a five-under-par 139, Peak to Peak’s Jack Brayman was third with a four-under-par 140, and Evergreen’s Liam Houlihan was fourth with a two-under-par 142.
