MANASSA – The Manassa Pioneer Days Rodeo took place this past weekend. There were several families from the San Luis Valley that participated, but it turned out to be an especially good weekend for the Canty family.
The Cantys won three events and all three were decided on the final day of the weekend.
Baylon Canty won breakaway roping in a time of 2.89 seconds on Saturday. The remaining top placers performed on Friday with Brianna Sharp finishing second in 3.34, Donna Begay taking third in 4.54, and Tori Huffaker placing fourth in 4.83.
Ryan Canty won tie-down roping in 11.53 on Saturday. Jared Sinclair was second in 11.75 on Saturday, Trevor McCullor was third in 12.23 on Friday, and Cody Redden was fourth in 13.01 also on Friday.
Mitch and Baylon Canty won open team roping in a time of 6.56 seconds on Saturday. The rest of the top times occurred in the Saturday morning slack with Eddie Garcia and Bret Boswell finishing second in 6.96, Brian Cowan and Albert Claunch placing third in 7.64, and Bailey Danylo and Taten Koeing taking fourth in 7.98.
Bronc riding was a combination of saddle bronc and ranch bronc rides. Tyler Beebe, a saddle bronc rider, won the competion with an 82-point ride on Saturday. George Rael, a ranch bronc rider, was second with 79 points on Saturday, Luke Rael, also a ranch bronc rider scored 77 points on Friday, and Beebe snd Ryan Booth both scored 76 points on Friday.
Bailey Danylo won open barrel racing with a time of 16.418 seconds on Saturday. Hadlee Canty was second in 16.804 on Saturday, Megan Davenport was third in 16.847 on Saturday, and Taylor Valdez was fourth in 16.860 on Friday.
Taycee DeHerrera won the junior barrels in 16.95 on Friday. Bailey Malouff was second in 17.870 on Saturday, and Tirza Chacon was third in 17.870 on Friday, and Avery Beckner was fourth in 18.887 on Saturday.
Trent Koenig and Bailee Gilleland won dally ribbon roping in 10.06 seconds on Saturday. Kaysen Johnson and Tyson Johnson were second in 13.53 on Friday, Miles Caldon and Misty Crowther were third in 18.31 on Saturday, and Braxton Regester and Brand Regester were fourth in 19.66 on Friday.
The bulls had the upper hand throughout the weekend with one rider getting a qualified ride. Joshua Sanchez scored 62 points on Friday in the novice bull riding.
There were no qualified rides in the open bull riding.
In the kids events, Harlin Creery won mutton bustin’ with 83 poibts on Saturday. Kipp Claunch was second with 77 points on Saturday, Sara Smith was third with 72 points on Friday, and Aubrey Beiriger was fourth with 70 points on Friday.
There were no qualified rides in the calf riding.
