ALAMOSA – The Alamosa and Monte Vista high school girls golf teams competed in three tournaments earlier this week.

Durango Invitational

Both teams opened the week at the Durango Invitational Monday at Hillcrest Golf Club.

The Mean Moose finished sixth with a score of 284. They were led by Jayla Quintana who tied for 21st with a 94. Kiara Gallegos and Jessica Munson tied for 24th with a 95, and Addison Rice was 57th with a 113.

The Pirates were seventh with 288. Leading the way was Reagan Futrell who tied for 21sxt with a 94, followed by Krissa Padilla who tied for 24th with a 95, Kaitlynn Roberts who was 30th with a 99, Kaylee Voss who was 35th with a 101, and Evie Hinds who was 39th with a 103.

Kirtland Central (N.M.) won the tournament with 243, followed by Durango with 249.

Kirtlland Central’s Hayden Dan was the medalist with a 75.

Montezuma-Cortez Invitational

Both teams competed at the Montezuma-Cortez Invitational at Conquistador Golf Course in Cortez on Tuesday

Alamosa finished in fifth place with an eve n 300. The Mean Moose were led by Quintana who tied for 15th with a 99. Gallegos tied for 19th with a 100, Munson tied for 21st with a 101, and Rice was 48th with a 123.

Monte Vista was seventh with 303. Leading the Pirates was Futrell who was 12th with a 94, Voss who tied for 21st with a 101, Padilla who was 31st with a 108, and Kaitlynn Roberts who was 32nd with a 111.

Monte Vista entered a second team which placed 10th with 358. It was led by Evie Hinds who was 30th with a 107, Mazi Hinds who was 39th with a 11t5, Bailey Roberts who was 54th with a 136, and Jacy Phillips who was 55th with a 137.

Durango won the tournament with 251. Montezuma-Cortez was second with 262.

Cortez’s Amita Crowley was the medalist with a 75, followed by Durango’s Dylan Livingston with a 78.

Madeline Mellers Memorial Invitational

On Wednesday, both Alamosa and Monte Vista took part in the Madeline Mellers Memorial Invitational hosted by Rye at Hollydot Golf Course in Colorado City.

Monte Vista finished in third place with 282. The Pirates were led by Futrell who tied for 11th with a 91. Padilla was 13th with a 92, Kaitlynn Roberts was 29th with a 99, and Voss was 43rd with a 105.

Alamosa took 12th with 310. Leading the Mean Moose were Valeria Cendejas who tied 36th with a 102, Khloe Spangler who tied for 39th with a 103, Ava Salazar who was 43rd with a 105, and Kenzie Gonzales who was 60th with a 111.

Monte Vista also entered a second team which was 22nd with 362. Bailey Roberts led the way by finishing 70th with a 116, and Jacy Phillips and Gisel Maestas both tied for 87th with a 123.

Rye won the tournament with 249, followed by Eads with 266.

Eads’ Reese Barnett was the medalist with a one-under-par 70. Rye’s Gloriana Ruiz was second with a 76, and another Rye golfer, Olivia Donlon, was third with a 79.

What’s next

Both teams will begin to wrap up the regular season over the next week. They will be at the Pueblo County Invitational, also at Hollydot, on Friday. They will be at the Gunnison Invitational Monday at Dos Rios Golf Course on Monday, and on Thursday, Alamosa will host its home tournament at Cattails Golf Course, which will also involve Monte Vista.
