Center dominates All-SPL wrestling team

ALAMOSA – The All-Southern Plains League wrestling ream was announced in March with several competitors from the San Luis Valley being recognized.

Center was named the Team of the Year and it had eight All-League selections.

Five of them were first team selections in Aaron Valadez, who was also named the Co-Wrestler of the Year, Martin Palma, Nicolas Palma, Andree Meraz and Caden Ruggles. One was a second-team selection in Michael Archuleta, and two more were honorable mention in Derriq Thompson and Noah Swanson.

Jose Chavez was the Coach of the Year.

Monte Vista had six selections. Four were first team in the other Co-Wrestler of the Year Kevin Cisneros, Jacob Pacheco, Jeremiah Baumgardner, and Matthew Rodriguez. Named to the second team were Mathieu Dean and Elijah Baumgardner.

Del Norte had four selections. Wyatt McIhaney was first team, Eulogio Garcia and Paul Neal were second team, and Anthony Conn was honorable mention.

Sierra Grande also had three selections. Bryant Tijerina was a second team competitor, and Aden Gallegos and Diego Rodriguez were honorable mention.

Sargent’s sole selection was Jaycian Sierra who was placed on the first team.

Antonito also had one selection in Matthew Bradley who was honorable mention.
