Alamosa’s Merrick places fifth at Joe I. Vigil meet

ALAMOSA – A total of 403 boys and 370 girls took part in the 32nd Joe I. Vigil Invitational, which took place Saturday at Cattails Golf Course.

Boys race

The Alamosa Mean Moose finished fifth in the boys race with 220 points. They were led by Ethan Merrick who was fifth in 15:40.39. He was the top finisher from Colorado as he placed behind three runners from New Mexico and one from Texas..

Also scoring for Alamosa were Jeremiah DeLaCerda who was 24th in 16:32.96, Brody Artaechevarria who was 53rd in 17:16.33, Cael Canaan who was 69th in 17:29.58, and Jayce Johnson who was 73rd in 17:37.65, Cody DiCamillo who was 171st in 19:06.69, and Jack Daniel Lopez who was 197th in 19:36.41.

Also running for the Mean Moose were Andy Hernandez who was 241st in 20:35.94, Danny Lopez who was 264th in 20:58.87, Merrick Lock who was 316th in 22:27.40, Matthew Hollingsworth who was 374th in 26:04.09, and Ryan Lucero who was 388th in 27:45.75.

Del Norte placed 21st in the boys race with 643 points. Mads Kreutzer led the Tigers as he placed 82nd in 17:41.15. Also scoring for Del Norte were Cruz Matta who was 120th in 18:16.18, Landon Crowder who was 146th in 18:47.77, Jax Lester who was 153rd in 18:54.78, and Zach Daniel who was 230th in 20:25.86, Corbin Horrocks who was 252nd in 20:47.43, and Justin Ast who was 347th in 23:54.14.

Centauri was 28th with 768 points. Scoring for the Falcons were Lincoln Bagwell who was 47th in 17:04.70, Rhett Taylor who was 180th in 19:22.43, Ethan Martinez who was 208th in 19:44.19, Gavin Graber who was 220th in 20:06.78, and Joey Torres who was 319th in 22:32.27, Rylun Polkowske who was 343rd in 23:44.74, and Wheeler Larson who was 349th in 24:03.26.

Other Centauri runners included Liam Sowards who was 355th in 24:31.15.

Centennial was 35th with 1,139. The Ram runners included Josiah Rael who was 308th in 22:18.39, Jeremy Rael who was 346th in 23:52.29, Miguel Salcido who was 376th in 26:17.87, Alazay Sanchez who was377th in 26:23.78, and Sebastian Monroy-Gonzalez who was 399th in 29:57.83.

The rest of the local teams did not figure in the team scoring.

Antonito had four runners. Leading the Trojans were Dean Garcia who was 249th in 20:45.38, Anthony Llanez who was 373rd in 25:56.07, Steven Velasquez who was 390th in 28:17.02, and Nick Mondragon who was 391st in 28:17.64.

Center also had four runners. Running for the Vikings were Dahir Ornelas who was 256th in 20:52.87, Isaac Garcia who was 328th in 22:51.18, Elijah Garcia who was 332nd in 22:59.65, and Romero Villagomez-Juarez who was 370th in 25:40.33.

Monte Vista ran two competitors. Haven Heredia was 306th in 22:13.49, and Logan Hernandez was 39th in 29:08.56.

Sargent had only one competitor in Lars Witzke who was 279th in 21:26.34.

Sierra Grande also had four runners. Daniel Rodriguez was 311th in 22:22.56, Jacob Portillo was 341st in 23:33.74, Ashton Sampson was 364th in 25:12.34, and Brylee Forrester was 367th in 25:22.29.

Girls race

Alamosa finished 11th in the girls competition with 354 points. Scoring for the Mean Moose were Hannah DeLaCerda who was 39th in 20:02.65, Olivia Formisano who was 41st in 20:03.84,  Victoria Gifford who was 87th in 21:07.67, Braelyn Cisneros who was 112th in 21:42.89, and Vanessa Villalva who was 127th in 22:00.63, Abigail Adams who was 164th in 22:45.26, and Isabella Lopez who was 169th in 22:49.49.

Also running for the Mean Moose were Maren Formisano who was 224th in 24:17.44, Camryn Zook who was 255th in 25:01.04, Gizelle Meraz who was 257th in 25:04.45, Catherine Tomas who was 303rd in 26:33.96, Daelyn Jackson who was 313th in 26:52.65, Paityn Semore who was 337th in 29:06.19, and Isabelle Estrada who was 360th in 33:39.42.

Del Norte was 17th with 503. The Tiger scorers included Scarlett Maxwell who was 16th in 19:25.27, Indie Howe who was 98th in 21:24.58, Faith Crowder who was 121s in, 21:54.56, Brianna Kaufman Brigham who was 236th in 24:35.03, and Ella Cowett who was 264th in 25:18.27.

Centauri was 21st with 548 points. The Falcon scorers included Kourtney Heikes who was 70th in 20:42.45, Mckenzie Torres who was 85th in 21:01.84, Bailey Graber who was 123rd in, 21:55.89; Sienna Taylor who was 247th in 24:50.44, and Lyndie Sowards who was 256th in 25:02.24, Alyvia Norton who was 280th in 25:48.62, and Jeana Dunn who was 298th in 26:12.74.

Other Centauri runners included Harper Russell who was 301st in 26:31.30, Britney Robins who was 302nd in 26:33.03, Beijah Sowards who was 309th in 26:42.90, Juliana Rendon who was 318th in 27:25.88, and Austyn Johnson who was 362nd in 33:58.04.

Antonito had three competitors including Eliana Garcia who was 338th in 29:09.41, Minerva Gonzalez who was 352nd in 31:15.71, and Evolet Garcia who was 369th in 36:02.33.

Center also had three runners. Alexandra Rubio who was 77th in 20:52.77, Shyanne Suazo who was 365th in 34:26.06, and Lavine Casas Hernandez who was 370th in 37:22.00.

Monte Vista also had three entrants and the Pirates were led by Shae Romero who placed the highest among SLV female individuals with an 11th place finish in 19:09.14. Anahi Murietta was 307th in 26:41.09, and Kailah Stucky was 368th in 36:01.11.

Sargent had two participants in Madeline Mitchell who was 90th in 21:14.72, and Sydney Curtis who was 218th in 24:04.31.
