ALAMOSA – The top-ranked Alamosa High School boys wrestling team won the Mel Smith Invitational this past weekend at Florence High School.
The Mean Moose scored 227 ½ points and outdistanced second-place Fort Morgan by 63 points. They had three individual champions in Jeremiah DeLaCerda (106), Pablito Rodriguez (132) and Uriah Martinez (138). Two more Alamosa wrestlers were second in their weight divisions in Jonovan Gutierrez (113) and Anthony Meder (120).
Also placing for the Mean Moose were Daniel Martinez who was third at 144 pounds, Jovanny Mendoza who was fourth at 190, and Max Dokson who was sixth at 215.
Centauri was 17th with 67 ½ points. The Falcons had two placers in Aiden Knecht who was fourth at 144 and Dorian Quintana who was fifth at 215.
Monte Vista was 22nd with 40 points. The Pirates’ only placer was Mathieu Dean who finished second at 106 pounds.
Alamosa is at a tournament in Farmington, N.M., this weekend.
