Alamosa qualifies both teams to state meet

ALAMOSA – The Alamosa High School cross country program will send both its boys and girls teams to the Class 3A State Meet after both teams finished in the Top 4 at the Region 2 Meet Thursday at Monument Valley Park in Colorado Springs.

The Alamosa boys tied for first place but was named the second-place team in a tiebreaker with Manitou Springs. Both teams scored 57 points

Leading the Mean Moose was Ethan Merrick who was the individual champion in 15:46.44. Jeremiah DeLaCerda was next as he placed fifth in 16:24.96, Cael Canaan was 10th in 16:48.93, Brody Artaechevarria was 17th in 17:20.19, Jayce Johnson was 24th in 17:34.95, Jack Daniel Lopez was 35th in 18:34.54, and Cody DiCamilo was 36th in 18:35.20.

Also running for the Alamosa boys were Danny Lopez, who was 41st in 19:02.84, and Andy Hernandez was 64th in 20:14.79.

Alamosa placed fourth in the girls meet with 105 points. The Mean Moose finished behind Manitou Springs with 37 points, Salida with 69, and Woodland Park with 75.

Hannah DeLaCerda led the Alamosa girls as she finished ninth in 19:54.48. Olivia Formisano was 18th in 20:38.52, Braelyn Cisneros was 22nd in 20:49.08, Vanessa Villava was 24th in 20:53.24, Abigail Adams was 34th in 22:00.73, Daelyn Jackson was 45th in 22:53.75, and Victoria Gifford was 46th in 22:53.80.

Other Alamosa girl runners were Camryn Zook who was 47th in 23:11.55, and Isabella Lopez who was 59th in 24:48.44.

Centauri

Centauri placed eighth with 207 points. Lincoln Bagwell was the Falcons’ only individual state qualifier for the boys state meet as he finished in 14th place in 16:54.37. Ethan Martinez finished 42nd in 19:13.70, Rhett Taylor was 43rd in 19:14.34, Gavin Graber was 56th in 19:43.22, Joey Torres was 77th in 21:45.59, Liam Sowards was 85th in 23:00.00, and Rylun Polkowske was 87th in 23:18.60.

Also running for the Falcons was Wheeler Larson who was 88th in 23:19.29.

The Centauri girls did not qualify for state as they placed sixth with 163 points. The Falcons were led by Mckenzie Torres who was 27th in 21:02.51, Genesi Morris who was 31st in 21:29.89, Kourtney Heikes who was 32nd in 21:38.00, Bailey Graber who was 37th in 22:20.09, Lyndie Sowards was 43rd in 22:46.89, Brooklyn Shawcroft who was 48th in 23:46.30, and Sienna Taylor who was 53rd in 24:11.02.

Also running for the Falcons were Harper Russell who was 54th in 24:11.69, and Alyvia Norton who was 56th in 24:16.01.

State meet is Nov. 1

The state meet will take place on Nov. 1 at the Norris Penrose Event Center in Colorado Springs. The Class 3A boys state meet begins at 1 p.m., while the girls will run at 2:20 p.m.
