ALAMOSA – The Alamosa High School girls wrestling team hosted Monte Vista in the final Intermountain League East Division dual meet of the season Thursday at the AHS gym.

When it was all said and done, the dual ended up in a 36-36 tie.

“It’s nice to see girls wrestling,” said Alamosa coach Rusty Johnson. “They have a pretty big team and we have a big team. We just didn’t match up very well. But we got some matches in and it worked out okay.”

The Mean Moose opened the meet with Leah Pintor receiving a forfeit win. But the Pirates won the next two matches by fall with Jessamy Pacheco pinning Kennedy Hillis in 5:36, and Hailey Black pinning Alana Mendoza in 1:56.

Alamosa regained the lead as their two top-ranked competitors Gizelle Meraz (115) and Samantha Maestas (120) both won by forfeit.

Timay Garcia then extended the lead to 24-12 as she pinned Emma Taylor in just 55 seconds.

Monte Vista’s Amirah Archuleta won by forfeit at 130, but Alamosa’s Adriana Griego took a forfeit win at 135 and the Mean Moose led 30-18.

The Pirates then received three straight forfeit wins with Annika Butero (140), Addison Temple (145), and Kaliah Stucky (155) all having their hands raised.

The Mean Moose salvaged the tie in the dual as Tiyonna Tyson won by forfeit at 190 pounds.

Alamosa was at the Canon City Invitational on Friday and it will be at the Chatfield Invitational today. It will host Pagosa Springs in the IML cross-over dual meet for the league championship this coming Thursday.

Monte Vista will host Bayfield in the league cross-over also this coming Thursday.
