ALAMOSA – The Alamosa and Monte Vista high school boys golf teams completed their first round of their respective state golf tournaments on Monday.
Class 3A
The Mean Moose competed at the Class 3A State Tournament at the Eagle Ranch Golf Course in Eagle.
Alamosa was 13th after the first round with 244. Leading the way was Serjio Najera who was 22nd with a 77, followed by Clayton Treinen who was 54th with an 82, Eliott MacKey who was 67th with an 85, and Gibson Gillespie who was 70th with an 87.
Lutheran and Mullen were tied for the lead with 221.
Lutheran’s Nicholas Brooks was the individual leader with a six-under-par 66, followed by Mullen’s Jackson Beldy with a three-under-par 69, and Peak to Peak’s Jack Brayman and Eaton’s Dayne Schmidke both with a one-under-par 71..

Class 2A
The Pirates were at the Class 2A State Tournament at Elmwood Golf Course in Pueblo.
Monte Vista was in a tie for eighth place with Jefferson Academy with 240. It was led by Connor Mellott who was third with a one-over-par 71. Jakoby Ross was 31st with an 80, and Aiden Ford was 77th with an 89.
Frontier Academy led after the first round with 229, followed by Forge Christian with 232, Telluride with 233, and Brush, Vail Christian ad Sterling all tied for fourth with 236.
Forge Christian’s Joey Banks led all individuals after the first round with a one-under-par 69, followed by Swink’s Noah Pearson with an even-par 70.

Both tournaments concluded on Tuesday. The final results will be published in Saturday’s paper.
