ALAMOSA – The ninth-ranked Alamosa High School girls wrestling team also won the Intermountain League championship after a 30-23 win over Pagosa Springs Thursday at the AHS gym.
The Mean Moose got off to a 12-0 lead as Leah Pintor (100) and Kennedy Hillis (105) both won by forfeit.
Pagosa got its first win at 110 pounds as Madison Swetten pinned Iliana Mendoza in 59 seconds.
Alamosa won the next two matches by fall. First Gizelle Meraz pinned Neveah Castaneda in 1:02 at 115 pounds, and then Samantha Maestas pinned Kelcey Matyniak in 1:04 at 120.
The Pirates won the next two matches by forfeit as Corrina Galabota (125) and Kyley Matyniak (130) both had their hands raised.
The Mean Moose then got a win by Adriana Griego as she pinned Adrina Smith in 1:17 at 135.
Pagosa won the final match of the night as Laykyn Baxstrom scored a 15-0 technical fall over Tiyonna Tyson ay 190 pounds. The fall came at the 4:27 mark.
Alamosa will next head to North Fork for the Class 4A Region 3 Tournament on Feb. 13-14.
