Alamosa girls golf second at home meet, Monte Vista third

ALAMOSA – The Alamosa High School girls golf team hosted its home tournament Thursday at Cattails Golf Course, and the Mean Moose finished in second place.

Alamosa had a team score of 296 – 35 strokes behind the tournament champion Montezuma-Cortez. It was led by Kiera Gallegos who tied for sixth place among individuals with a 96. Jayla Quintana and Jessica Munson both tied for eighth with a 100, and Addison Rice was 15th with a 106.

Monte Vista finished in third place with 303. Reagan Futrell led the Pirates as she finished tied for fourth with a 95. Kaylee Voss was 12th with a 103, Kaitlynn Roberts tied for 13th with a 105, and Krissa Padilla was 18th with a 115.

Alamosa also entered two sub varsity teams. The second team was fourth with 320 and was led by Valeria Cendejas who was third with a 93. Khloe Spangler was 16th with a 107, and Arreli Felix and Ashlyn Rice tied for 21st with a 120.

The third team did not record a team score. Ava Salazar was 19th with a 116, Adrianna Griego was 20th with a 117, and Sarah Motz tied for 25th with a 129.

Monte Vista also entered a second team which placed sixth with 360. Mazi Hinds led the way as she tied for 13th with a 105. Gisel Meastas tied for 23rd with a 126, Jacy Phillips tied for 25th with a 129, and Bailey Roberts was 28th with a 133.

Montezuma-Cortez’s Amita Crowley was the medalist with an 81.

Pueblo County Invitational

Both teams concluded the regular season on Friday as they were at the Pueblo County Invitational at Hollydot Golf Course in Colorado City.

Monte Vista tied for second place with 275 – 20 strokes behind tourney champion Rye. Leading the Pirates was Futrell who tied for second place with an 81. Voss tied for 13th with a 93, Padilla was 27th with a 101, and Phillips was 59th with a 130.

Alamosa tied for sixth place with 287. Quintana led the Mean Moose as she placed fifth with an 85. Munson tied for 22nd with a 98, Addison Rice was 32nd with a 104, and Ashlyn Rice was 50th with a 117.

Rye’s Olivia Donlan was the medalist with a 78.

State qualifiers

Both Alamosa and Monte Vista qualified four golfers for next week’s Class 2A State Tournament which will take place at the Lone Tree Country. Club in Lone Tree.

For the Mean Moose, Quintana, Gallegos, Munson and Addison Rice qualified for state. For the Pirates, Futrell, Voss, Padilla and Kaitlynn Roberts qualified.

The state tournament begins on May 18 and concludes the next day.
