DEL NORTE –The Alamosa High School girls soccer team snapped a two-game losing streak on Tuesday as it defeated Del Norte, 7-0, at the Tigers’ field.
“The girls played great and they finished,” said Alamosa coach Kelly Wubben. “I’m proud of them. Losing two is no fun. It’s much more fun to win.”
It didn’t take long for the Mean Moose to get on the scoreboard as Leah Higareda took a pass from Arely Lara and put the ball into the goal. Higareda scored again three minutes later with Maran Formisano getting the assist.
Araceli Molina accounted for Alamosa’s third goal as she took a corner kick from Jayden Wubben in the 30th minute. Higareda then completed the hat trick just before halftime with Molina getting credited with the assist.
Molina scored her second goal in the 66th minute with Jayden Wubben being credited with another assist off a corner kick.
Jayden Wubben scored an unassisted goal in the 70th minute as she intercepted a Del Norte pass and put the ball into the net. She scored another goal a minute later with Molina getting her second assist.
Alamosa outshot Del Norte 21-3. Mean Moose goalkeepers Kylie Cantu and Daniela Celis combined for Alamosa’s fourth shutout of the season with Cantu stopping one shot and Celis two.
Leilany Soto was the Tigers’ goalkeeper and she recorded 14 saves.
Alamosa (6-4, 3-2) played its final home game of the season on Friday as it hosted Pagosa Springs at the Adams State University soccer and lacrosse field. The Mean Moose will close out the season with a pair of road games next week – at Pueblo Centennial on Friday and at Bayfield on Saturday.
“We need to win out,” coach Wubben said.
