ALAMOSA — In an update to a developing story, it's been confirmed by the U.S. Marshal in Colorado and the Alamosa County Sheriff's Office that fugitive Paul Sandoval, wanted in connection with the 2021 aggravated sexual assault of a child, was taken into custody Sunday morning.
According to Alamosa County Sheriff Robert Jackson, Sandoval - who was armed with a rifle - was captured in the Blanca Peak area, bringing an end to a large scale, multi-agency manhunt in high elevation terrain by the U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Task Force.
The manhunt lasted for more than 48 hours. "The Task Force has been up there the entire time," Jackson told the Valley Courier.
After a medical check-up, Sandoval will be transported to the Alamosa County Detention Center where he will be detained.
In an official statement from the U.S. Marshal in Colorado released on Friday, on 3/15/2021 Sandoval was asked to babysit his girlfriend’s 8-year-old daughter. When the 8-year-old girl was asleep, Sandoval allegedly tied her up with rope and violently raped her. A warrant was issued on 3/19/2021 by the Alamosa County Sheriff’s Office.
