Martha passed at the River Valley Rehabilitation Care Center in Del Norte, Colo., where she had resided since March 2019. There she developed many close/loving relationships. She was 73 years old when she went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She loved her Jesus! She fought a long, hard battle against diabetes and dementia.
Her grandpa was a homesteader in southeastern Colorado. He married an Indian and had seven children, four boys and three girls; they lived in a house with dirt floors, no indoor plumbing or water. Martha spent her early years on a ranch near that area where she too had no indoor bathroom facilities, and water from a huge water tower container. She shared many adventures with her three older sisters there. All four girls rode behind their mother's/aunt's saddles on cattle roundups. She and sister Barbara developed a lifelong love of horses. In her teens she participated in rodeos in La Junta, Colo., with her horse, Zipper, who would do anything for her, and vice versa.
She married young, had a son, James (Jim), but the marriage dissolved. She met Ron Sales who became the love of her life. Ron adopted her toddler, making a close-knit family of three. Ron was an estimator for commercial construction contractors and a partner in Gateway Construction, Gateway, Colo. He was a very busy man, but he always found time for Martha and Jim. After Jim died at the age of 38, Martha declined. Ron cared for her many needs until his death in July 2015.
Martha excelled at sewing, crocheting bedspreads, Afghans, fancy doll clothes, tablecloths, gorgeous doilies etc. For many years, she was a commercial seamstress. She enjoyed fishing with family, ATV trips, flowers in her yard, grandsons when she could have them, coloring, jigsaw puzzles, Bingo and music.
She was preceded in death by her parents Florence Burns (McGown) and George W. Morley, husband Ron Sales and son James; two sisters - Syble Blocker and Nettie Morley.
She is survived by her sister, Barbara Wagner (Charles) of Monte Vista, Colo., grandsons: Kasey, Cody, and Conner; nephew John Fazekas (Diane) and their boys; nieces: Sherry Bowen (Bud), Crystal Fazekas, Christiana Fazekas and her children and grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 7 at the Valley Church of the Nazarene at 228 Madison St., Monte Vista, Colo.; phone 719-852-5858.
