CREEDE – This weekend, Aug. 23 and 24, is packed with musical talent, family fun and a music festival designed to rock the San Juans for three days. The annual Headwaters Music Festival will kick off Saturday bringing in top-of-the-line artists to Creede.
“We are so lucky to have such great people here in Creede and to have the musical talent we do. It’s why we started this festival and though it may be small, it is mighty,” said Headwaters Music Festival Coordinator Bob Holt. “We have some great artists lined up this year and we have broken our ticket sales record because of it.”
Saturday kicks off with local talent beginning with Rally Round. Hailing from many different places and musical stylings, Rally Round comes together to produce a fun, danceable mix of reggae covers. They infuse their own style to classic roots reggae like Toots and the Maytals to more modern offerings like Sublime and Slightly Stoopid. Rally Round hopes their cool island rhythms will bring warm vibes to this high mountain town. Featuring the musical stylings of Joe Baker, Malcolm Snead, John Goss, Steve Baxter, and Steve Reynolds.
The next band to hit the stage is Float Like a Buffalo from Denver. “Float Like a Buffalo is a powerhouse six-piece band from Denver, Colorado, known for delivering explosive live shows and a bold, horn-heavy sound that blends rock grit with deep-pocket funk, catchy rhythms, and soulful grooves. Their dynamic arrangements, infectious energy, and genre-bending style have earned them a loyal following and a reputation as one of Colorado’s must-see live acts. Whether performing in intimate clubs or on iconic stages, FLAB delivers an unforgettable experience that turns first-time listeners into lifelong fans.”
Headwaters has become home to bands like Bo DePena Band who have come each year to showcase their love of Creede and the music festival. Somewhere between the concrete jungle of New York City and the dirt road expanse of the West, resides the “American Roots” music of Bo DePeña. With a blended sound of blues, country, folk, and hints of rock ‘n roll, the singer, songwriter, and performer is a troubadour, telling the tales of America’s backbone.
As the sun sink closer to the peaks of the San Juans it will be time to welcome this year’s headliner, Phil Hamilton. Hamilton has made a name for himself and his band as they travel the US bringing hits like Brazos Wind and more. Hamilton became familiar with Creede after playing a show in Pagosa Springs, Colo. and is looking forward to returning.
“We have a new single out ‘Old Man’s Farm’ and we are really excited to be able to come to Creede and share it. We hit so many plays with Brazos Wind; the journey has been just amazing. It’s crazy to have folks come up and know me by a song.”
The night ends with Uncle Lucious, another up and coming band that gained popularity after their song “Keep the Wolves Away” featured on the hit TV show Yellowstone.
Sunday blooms with even more talent hitting the stage that consists of Mcleod 9, Caldera, Rivertown Folk, Michael Hearne and Friends and The Rifters.
“So much goes into putting this festival together and it takes each piece to make it a special event for Creede, so thank you to all and thank you to those who buy tickets and come out to dance. Rain, shine or snow, we always have a great time,” finished Holt.
Tickets are available online at www.headwatersmusicfestival.com or at the gate beginning on Saturday, Aug.23.
