Yula Cisneros Montoya’s dance studio will be providing a captivating dance performance. Yula Cisneros Montoya is the owner of Yula - Pilates and Movement Studio and director of the Youth Ballet Program in Alamosa, Colorado. She has a BFA in Dance from Cornish College of the Arts and has over thirty years of experience as a dancer, performer and educator who teaches specialized dance techniques in ballet, modern, contemporary, African, and Afro-Latino dance aesthetics.
During this show, The Fafa family and members of the Youth Ballet Program will perform a choreography by Yula Cisneros Montoya that celebrates Selasee’s sounds. This will be the final collaboration of the summer between ALMA and Yula’s dance studio, so make sure you don’t miss out on this unforgettable experience! Selasee, originally from Ghana, is a singer/songwriter who explores reggae music influenced by pop and the west African highlife music genres. He is the founder of the Blackeye Watching Records LLC and leader of the band Selasee and The Fafa Family now based in Colorado. Born in Accra, Ghana, he grew up exposed to the colorful and energetic sounds of Highlife Music and developed his own style — a unique blend of Reggae, West African Highlife and American Pop music. Threading together English and West African lyrics for a bright and captivating sound. Growing up in Accra, he realized his passion for music and gained a good understanding of music's effect on people. In 2001, Selasee immigrated to the US where he continued to pursue his solo career. During this time, he signed on with Running Dreams Records under management with Sean Cassidy. In 2005, he recorded his debut album “Run” on Running Dreams Records. That same year the title track “Run” won first place in the World Music genre of the International Song Writers Competition. The Tracks “Run” and “Makuma” were also featured in the 2006 FIFA Soccer and 2007 Cricket video games by EA Sports.
