GREAT SAND DUNES — The National Park Service at Great Sand Dunes is starting annual recruitment for volunteers for the 2025 spring, summer and fall season to assist with visitor safety, orientation, and information in the capacity of Preventative Search and Rescue (PSAR) duties.

Great Sand Dunes PSAR volunteers effectively reduce the need for search and rescue through programming, engagement, and creating messaging opportunities to visitors they encounter about the hazards of hiking in sand dunes during the peak of summer. PSAR Volunteers will alleviate the likelihood of emergency situations through discussions of preparedness and proper planning with visitors either in the popular destinations like the Dunes Trailhead area or working alongside interpretive rangers at the park's visitor center providing trip planning, park information, and additional PSAR.

This position does not provide housing or RV spots and is ideal for locals or long-term visitors in the San Luis Valley region.

If interested in this position, submit an application on volunteer.gov or call the park volunteer coordinator at 719-378-6342.
