CONEJOS COUNTY — Bountiful Meats & Processing is a meat processing shop in Bountiful. The shop offers custom meat processing, wild game meat processing, and meat shares to fill your freezer. Jocelyn and Mitch Buhr own the shop and processing operation, which has seven employees.
Bountiful Meats is "A specialty butchery; in addition to offering fresh and frozen meats, we have our summer sausage, snack sticks, jerky, and other fresh sausages. All are made here in-house; we have our own smokehouse and make our own hams and bacon," according to Mitch.
"The meat shop opened since 2018 and has seven other employees When I was young, I worked at Jacks Market and got some of my first experience with meat. "
Customers can experience a local, farm-to-table experience where we get you what you want. According to their website, "You get to have your cake and eat it too (or, in this case, meat!)! You want local Colorado Pork? Beef? Lamb? Okay, you got it. Do you want your bacon sliced thick? Your ground beef in 2-lb packs? Your steaks two to a pack? No problem."
During a recent visit to their storefront, I purchased a package of their Hot Italian sausage, which I later sauteed. Incorporating the sausage into a tomato sauce for pasta with plenty of green bell peppers, a dish commonly known as "sausage and peppers," was a delightful experience. The sausage was not just good; it was exceptional. This locally made product surpassed any supermarket product, a testament to the quality that Bountiful Meats & Processing is known for.
That day, the meat shop had fresh ground beef on sale for $4.70 a pound, cheese, sausages, top-end steaks, wagyu beef, top sirloin, and chuck steak. The freezer was chock full of frozen meat, including stuffed hamburgers and some seafood.
Aside from what the shop sells, the couple offers services. According to Jocelyn, "We sell meat shares. We offer half and whole. We source them locally and have what the customers want: grass-fed or grain-fed. We also have hogs. We also offer custom processing and wild game processing."
