CREEDE – On its 134th anniversary, the Town of Creede celebrated its Founders Day on Saturday along Main Street.

The day started with a bicycle, wagon and pet parade which started at the Mineral County Court House. Three children on bicycles, and two pet owners participated in the parade. The event committee hopes to at least double that attendance for next year’s event.

There was more participation for the Willow Creek Duck Derby which started across the street from the Creede Town Hall. Approximately 500 ducks at $5 apiece were entered with members from the same family having the Top 3 ducks that crossed the finished line.

Molly Ikard, the spokesperson for the family, said that it put more than $100 in adopting ducks. They received $350 in prize money - $200 for first place, $100 for second place and $50 for third place.

This was the first year of the event. It was sponsored by Cabin + Gift and it raised approximately $1,250 to help create a future 501(c)) Creede Kids Foundation, which will bring the vision of a Children’s Museum to life and invest in the future of Creede’s children.

The final event was a large birthday cake for the Town of Creede in Basham Park. The cake was cut as several children sang “Happy Birthday to You” to the town
