CRESTONE – The Baca Grande Library is excited to announce that Peter Anderson will be reading from his newest book “Riding the Wheel,” a book of prose and poems, on Saturday April 5, beginning at 12 p.m. at the library, 67581 County Road T, Crestone.
Anderson is the author of many books including “Heading Home;” Field Notes, “First Church of the Higher Elevations,” and “Reading Colorado;” A Literary Road guide. He has also written a book of poems called “Going Down Grand, poems from the Canyon.” His book “Reading Colorado,” received the best anthology award at the 33rd annual Colorado Book Awards.
According to petehowardanderson.com, Anderson has been writing since 1983 professionally. Anderson has written numerous articles for different newspapers, and at least 12 children’s books on the natural history and different cultures in the American West.
Anderson has also taught many classes about literature and writing. Anderson’s teaching skills were most recently utilized by Adams State University. Though Anderson is an author, he is also a performer. He is part of a poetry group known as The River City Nomads. For the past 20 years, Anderson has been performing in coffee houses, bars, libraries, colleges and other writing venues.
Anderson lives in Crestone with his family. Anderson enjoys also writing about rural lifestyles and life. Anderson has worked as an editor for a magazine, and a poetry editor. In 2018 Anderson established the Poetry Festival, this has become an annual gathering of poets from the Southwestern area. The poetry festival is a four-day celebration that includes poetry readings, along with literary workshops, and open mic readings, along with a social gathering of poets, with the chance to meet and get acquainted with other poets of like interests or writings. This annual event happens with the hope that poets will support each other at the event, and more poets will continue to grow and thrive and attend the event.
Anderson has written numerous books, his latest book published in 2024 entitled “Riding the Wheel,” will have excerpts read out of it by Anderson at the Baca Grande Library on April 5. This is a book that has been called beautiful, wise, sensitive, solid, and observant of self, in one of its reviews on Amazon. In yet another review on Amazon, the book is said to be deeply steeped in place, in the interstice of mountains and desert and multiple genres. The reviewer goes on to say that she loves how Anderson pledges his allegiance to the big wheel of life in the book, and honors that wheel on every page.
In the book it is said that Anderson’s home ground, The San Luis Valley, is brought to life through poems, lyrics, and beautiful haikus. The Baca Grande Library would like to invite everyone to this special event that will take place on Saturday April 5 beginning at 12 p.m.
