MOSCA – The Sargent High School girls basketball team left little doubt to the victor in its game against Sangre de Cristo Tuesday at the Thunderbirds’ gym. The Lady Farmers got off to a fast start and also used stingy defense to defeat the Lady Thunderbirds 66-1.

Sargent got rolling on a layup by Kandace Pargin. After that, it got 25 more points in the first quarter and it led 27-0 at the end of the period.

Kandace Pargin scored eight points in the first, followed by Angelise Garcia with six, Kimmy Pargin with 5, Reese Anderson with four, and Makenzie Consaul and Tami Torgler both with two.

The Lady Farmers kept up the momentum in the second quarter by scoring 21 more points to take a 48-0 lead at halftime.

Kandace Pargin scored nine points in the second, followed by Anderson and Garcia both with four, and Consaul and Kimmy Pargin both with two.

Sargent scored the first 18 points of the third quarter. Garcia scored eight points, followed by Consaul with four, Anderson, Kandace and Kimmy Pargin, and Kaylee Voss each with two.

The Lady Thunderbirds averted the shutout with 43 seconds left on the third on a free throw by Tori Sorensen.

The fourth quarter was played under a running clock and there was no scoring by either team.

Garcia led the Lady Farmers with 18 points, followed by Kandace Pargin with 17, Anderson with 10, Kimmy Pargin with nine and Consaul with eight.

Sargent (3-1) will play at the Cedaredge Invitational this weekend.

Sangre de Cristo (0-4) will host Walsenburg on Friday beginning at 4:30 p.m.
