Del Norte’s Malachi Gallegos controls Center’s Jordon Duran during their bout at 113 pounds on Friday, Feb. 12, at a DNHS-hosted triangular. Duran wrestled up a weight from 106 to 113 pounds. The only entrant wearing Tiger togs, Gallegos won a major decision 13-3 after six regulation minutes and later pinned Ignacio’s Devante Montoya in just 1:05 at 113 — giving the DNHS-Monte Vista co-op a 3-4 overall record at the 13-bout event, which also attracted the Center-Sierra Grande blended team. Ahead on the Tigers-Pirates’ schedule this weekend — weather and COVID-19 permitting — will be a Grand Junction Central-hosted quad on Feb. 20, with Olathe and Delta also slated to attend. Results from a Feb. 18 test versus area rival Sargent was unavailable at press time.
