ALAMOSA – The Alamosa High School softball team took second in the Class 3A Region 3 Tournament Saturday at Twin Rivers Softball Field in Greeley.
By taking second, the Lady Mean Moose qualified for the Class 3A State Tournament which will take place Friday and Saturday at the Aurora Sports Complex.
Alamosa qualified for state by defeating Cedaredge 5-4. The Lady Bruins scored three runs in the top of the first inning, but the Lady Mean Moose scored four times in the fourth. Cedaredge tied the score in the top of the seventh, but Alamosa won the game with a run in its half of the inning.
Shea Jordan earned the win as Alamosa’s pitcher. She allowed four runs and six hits and she struck out nine and walked two.
Alamosa had seven hits and was led by Araceli Molina who went 2-2 with a double and one RBI. Jordan led in RBIs with two.
The Lady Mean Moose then face the host team, University, but were defeated 10-0. The Lady Bulldogs scored three runs in the first, four in the second, two in the third and one in the fourth. The game ended after five innings on the 10-run rule.
Jordan started the game but was dealt the loss. She allowed seven runs and 10 hits and she struck out three and walked none. Olivia Castillo ended the game and she gave up three runs and no hits with no strikeouts and three walks.
The Lady Mean Moose had only one hit – a single by Jordan.
Alamosa (12-13) is the 11th seed will face league opponent and sixth-seeded Rocky Ford in the first round of the state tournament. Game time is at 12:15. Should the Lady Mean Moose win they will play either third-seeded University or 14th-seeded Montezuma-Cortez at 2:30 p.m. A loss will end the season.
All five Tri-Peaks League teams qualify for state
The Tri-Peaks League showed how competitive it is by qualifying all five of its teams to state.
In Region 4, Lamar defeated Alameda 12-0 and La Junta defeated Delta 7-4. Lamar won the championship game 13-1.
In Region 5, Southeast Colorado defeated Limon 14-2 and then it defeated Brush 6-0.
In Region 6, Rocky Ford defeated Sand Creek 15-0 and then it defeated The Classical Academy 17-2.
Lamar is the fourth seed will play 13th-seeded Resurrection Christian, and Southeast Colorado is the fifth seed and will play 12th-seeded The Classical Academy with both games starting at 10 a.m. is the 15th seed La Junta will play second-seeded Strasburg at 12:15 p.m.
