CREEDE – It’s time to mark the calendar and make plans for the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving and head on up to Creede for the annual Chocolate Festival and Holiday Market. Residents, business owners and the City of Creede have all partnered to bring the holiday spirit to the forefront and to celebrate the season with giving. Starting on Friday, Nov. 29, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. businesses along the historic Main Street in downtown Creede will be offering delectable treats to all who venture that way with the annual Creede Chocolate Festival.
CREEDE – Creede Repertory Theatre (CRT) will open its 60th anniversary season in May. The season will be its first under new Artistic Director Emily Van Fleet and will include two musicals, a theatrical adventure comedy, a riveting drama, and more. CRT will open all its main shows before the end of June.

During September and October, eleven Mineral County EMTs participated in a 40-hour refresher class in order to hone their patient care skills and to accrue sufficient continuing education credits to qualify for their biennial National Registry recertification and their triennial Colorado recertification.
DEL NORTE – The overlay project for the Kent Rominger Airport runway has been completed thanks to grant funding through the Colorado Department of Transportation Aeronautics Division. This project has been on the calendar for some time as materials and closure dates were figured out, but now that the project is done, pilots from around the world can enjoy a new runway while visiting.
MONTE VISTA – On Friday, Sept. 20, the SLV 4-H Livestock Senior and Junior Judging Teams competed in the Tri State Fair Livestock Judging Contest in Amarillo, Texas. The Senior Team placed eighth out of 54 teams and the Junior team placed 16th out of 42 teams, according to a press release from the Colorado State University San Luis Valley Area Extension Office. The teams were coached by Eric Hinton and Janae Naranjo. There were 121 total participants in the competition.
CREEDE – Saturday morning, Sept. 21, kicked off with low hanging clouds, the threat of rain, and Main Street in Creede lined with classic vehicles of all shapes and sizes. Chrome glistened in the soft light and people viewed over 75 cars to the beat of golden oldies from the speakers placed downtown.
CREEDE – As the trees within the San Juan and La Garita Mountains change into their fall attire, the 16th Annual Cruisin’ the Canyon Car Show will be hitting Main Street in Creede on Saturday. For the past 16 years, this popular event has brought car enthusiasts from all over the U.S. to add a spark of the past to the brilliance of fall in this small mountain town.
SAN LUIS VALLEY – With temperatures cooling and the feel of autumn in the air, now is the time to plan for outings in the beautiful San Juan Mountains to capture the amazing fall colors that are set to peak by the end of September, beginning of October.
CREEDE – Main Street was packed to the brim with people gathered for the annual Creede Mountain Run and Salsa Fiesta on Saturday, Aug. 31. Competitors for the Mountain run hit the road early in the morning as the brisk day bloomed over the high caldera cliffs north of town and set the stage for the coming festivities.

CREEDE – In honor of its 130th anniversary on Aug. 4, the Creede Community Church dedicated its new Meditation Garden. During the ceremony, the Rev. Sarah B. Linn offered appreciation to the trustees and to church members Stan and Michael Tucker-McDermott of the Tucker-McDermott Foundation, who shepherded the project over the past five years.
MINERAL COUNTY – It has been a busy summer in Creede and Mineral County Sheriff Terry Wetherill was pleased to state that there have been minimal issues in the area.
CREEDE – The Virginia Christensen Multi Use Facility was packed to the brim on July 17 with well over 200 people mulling around looking for treasures provided by generous donations and the efforts of Creede Ladies Aid Society. The annual Ladies Aid Rummage sale was off to a great start and there was no slowing it down.
MONTE VISTA – Country singing legend Wynonna brought that “true country bass” to kick off the 102nd annual Ski-Hi Stampede. During her 90-minute set, she sang “I Hear You Knocking,” “I Know Where I Am Going,” “Rock Bottom,” and “Hey Good Looking,” all the while speaking casually with the crowd throughout the evening.
