ALAMOSA — The Alamosa Bicycle Coalition (ABC) began five years ago as a small grass-roots initiative. The coalition will hold an open house in Alamosa on June 12. By refurbishing used bicycles and donating them to persons referred by local community partners, ABC works to meet the needs of those in our local community who lack access to other reliable basic transportation for work, school, appointments, shopping and other essential community engagements.  

MONTE VISTA - Everyone is invited to attend a Community Resources and Housing Development Homeownership Month celebration on Saturday, June 7, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 925 Stallo St.  

ALAMOSA - The Alamosa Round-UP has been a part of the San Luis Valley Heritage for over 40 years. With multiple days of exciting events, it is the biggest event in Alamosa. 

SARGENT - In the commencement ceremony at Sargent High School, 21 seniors walked into the gymnasium on May 23, decked out in caps, gowns, and smiles, ready to finish their high school journey, in front of about 200 people.  

ALAMOSA — Come out to Cole Park in Alamosa for a fantastic Battle of the Bands presented by the Alamosa Live Music Association (ALMA) on Saturday, June 7, 4 to 7 p.m. at SummerFest on the Rio in Alamosa. 

VILLA GROVE - The Villa Grove and Bonanza Fire Department was established in 1976 and have sought support from local communities throughout the San Luis Valley through an annual fundraiser to help with costs associated with training, equipment, and operation.  

Come one, come all to the Saguache Memorial Day Parade on Sunday, May 25.

ALAMOSA — The SLV Community Band will perform a spring concert in tribute to long-time music educator, Linwood Warwick, on Thursday, May 22 at 7 p.m., in ASU’s Leon Memorial Hall. The concert is free and open to the public.   

ALAMOSA — Creede, described as “the last silver boom town in Colorado”, is well known for its spectacular surroundings, rich history and vibrant Main Street that echoes days gone by. Nestled among the authentic storefronts is a green door, flanked on either side by flowerpots and a sign overhead that reads Aspen Inn. 

ALAMOSA – Adams State University Semillas de la Tierra will celebrate their ninth annual Baile de Primavera, or Spring Dance, at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 17, in Richardson Hall. The performance will feature two talented, local guest artists, Freddie Jaquez and Christian Santistevan. 

The 14th annual Sgt. Glen Martinez 5K Run/Walk and Veterans Golf Tournament will be held at the Monte Vista Golf Course on Saturday, May 24. All proceeds benefit the Sgt. Glen E. Martinez Memorial Scholarship Fund, in which $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to a senior boy and senior girl of Monte Vista High School. 

ALAMOSA — On Saturday, May 17, from 8:30 a.m. to noon, join the Friends of the San Luis Valley National Wildlife Refuges for a birding expedition along the Rio Grande. 

MONTE VISTA - SLVREC Energy Foundation generously donated $10,000 on April 1, to the SLV 4-H Endowment Fund. 

ALAMOSA — Earlier this week, a young bull moose wandered into a fenced in area at the Rio Grande Farm Park and Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) staff had to assist him in finding a way out. 

CENTER — The Saint Peter and Saint Paul Catholic Church in San Pedro received an upgrade of rain gutters from a 17-member group of skilled volunteers from the Knights of Columbus Council 1498 from Saint Mark's Parish in Highlands Ranch, Colo. This successful collaboration is a testament to the power of community and volunteerism. 

RIO GRANDE COUNTY – For the third straight year, Rio Grande County Commissioners in partnership with Rio Grande County Noxious Weed Department and the Monte Vista School District gave four students $500 scholarships for participating in the Noxious Weed Scholarship Program.

MONTE VISTA – The day was near perfect, with plenty of sun and a refreshing breeze, for the Cinco de Mayo celebration on Saturday, May 3, in Monte Vista.  

CREEDE – For the past 37 years, Creede has marked the beginning of its summer season with an unforgettable Memorial Day weekend packed with good food, great talent and a taste of what summer has in store for residents and visitors alike

On May 1 she became the first business teacher and FBLA advisor to receive the Educator Highlight Award from the Adams State School of Education. When a contingent from Adams State and the Alamosa School District showed up to present her with the award, she was just launching her class into a session on the value of Roth IRAs. 

ALAMOSA — The Youth Ballet Program, directed by Yula Cisneros Montoya, will have its annual recital at Adams State University in Richardson Hall Auditorium at 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 10.
