Thank a nurse during National Nurses Week

The American public has again ranked nurses as the professionals with the highest honesty and ethical standards, according to a Gallup poll released in December, 2021. The annual poll marks the 20th consecutive year that nurses have been ranked the most trusted out of a wide spectrum of professions, including medical doctors and police officers. The trust Americans have in nurses is due to their holistic approach to providing high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals, families, and communities.

The COVID-19 pandemic has placed a spotlight on nurses, reinforcing the critical contributions they make to our health care system, while also highlighting the devastating impact it has had on their mental health and well-being.

The American Nurses Association is celebrating the month of May as National Nurses Month with the theme “Nurses Make a Difference” to honor the varying roles of nurses and their positive impact on our lives. Nurses make a difference as trusted advocates who ensure individuals, families, and populations receive quality patient care and services. Nurses make a difference by influencing and shaping health policy decisions that ensure all Americans have access to high-quality, affordable health care coverage.

“I want to congratulate every nurse across the nation for earning this well-deserved recognition,” said ANA President Ernest Grant, PHD, RN, FAAN. “The fact that this is the 20th year in a row that the American public has voted nurses #1 is a testament to your consistent professionalism, despite the challenges of the persistent pandemic.  We are all indebted to you and will continue to acknowledge and honor your courage, commitment, and expertise during the COVID-19 pandemic and well beyond.”

Thank a Nurse! National Nurses Week is May 2-8. Nurses in the San Luis Valley community work hard to provide you with the best possible health care. Give them a big smile and a heartfelt Thank You.
