South Fork plans for hog roast, celebrates fall

SOUTH FORK — There is no better way to say hello to fall other than with a free Hog Roast and Fall Colorfest celebration in South Fork.

Hints of color are just beginning to pop throughout the San Juan and La Garita Mountains which means now is the time to plan a trip to see the fall foliage this weekend.

South Fork Visitor Center Director Dustin Hund announced last week that the center, in partnership with the town, is inviting the public to join them in celebrating fall and a successful summer.

The Town of South Fork is surrounded by hundreds of trails used for recreation and hunting. It is the perfect location to enjoy the changing of the seasons and with the weather shifting into cooler fall days, the fishing is prime.

The visitor center has been a busy place this summer and now is a wonderful time to go and learn about the many different things to do in the area. The South Fork Farmers Market will be on Friday before the event and has several booths selling homemade wares, fresh local veggies and much more. The market will be wrapping up soon for the season.

A list of fall color drives is also available at the visitor center. The area is full of hiking and recreational trails as well as scenic drives.

The free event will feature live entertainment by The Bent Ears, a meal that includes sides, and a bonfire.

Next up, South Fork will be hosting its annual Chili Cookoff at the community center and will be welcoming hunters back to the area. For more information or a list of coming events, visit online www.southfork.org.
