Creede Rep unveils season poster

CREEDE— The weekend was full of activities throughout the entire town of Creede and the Creede Repertory Theatre (CRT) opened their doors, rolled out the red carpet and welcomed theatre goers from around the country. The theatre spent the weekend dishing out laughs, unveiling the 2017 poster and kicked off the start to the small print show that will continue through the remainder of the summer. CRT Productions Manager Jessica Jackson stated that the weekend was a very successful and entertaining start to the 52nd season.
On Friday, May 26, several patrons, CRT company and staff members gathered at the Ruth Humphrey’s Brown Theatre to introduce the 2017 season poster. This year’s artist was Aaron Morgan Brown, whose father John Gary Brown has taken pictures for CRT for 40 years. Using his father’s pictures for inspiration, Brown was able to capture the essence of CRT and all it has to offer. “The event was just lovely,” said Jackson. The event was followed by live entertainment provided by Creede’s Big River Band.
In addition to the poster unveiling ceremony, the theatre welcomed guests for a sneak peek into the coming season several showings of their kid’s improv musical “Pants on Fire.” The show is one that is made up entirely on the spot by the attending children in the audience and was a hit.
CRT will officially open its doors for the season on June 2 with the premiere of “She Loves Me,” a play straight from the stages of Broadway. According to an interview published in the “Denver Post” by CRT company member Kate Berry, Director Michael Perlman states that the CRT stage is going to be a perfect location to host the musical.
Perlman was quoted stated that, “Well the intimacy is a huge benefit - it’s not a huge space so you don’t have to play anything larger than necessary - the audience is right there in the room with these characters. And the limitations of the space help foster creative solutions that often serve the show even better. The limitations of the space become harder as you need more people onstage. This wasn’t a musical, but I remember with “Is He Dead?” there were times where much of the staging was actually solving a physics problem of how to fit everyone onstage. Because of the hoop skirts, it became like a game of Tetris or sliding blocks to move people.”
The family-friendly play will be sure to keep the crowd laughing and on their feet throughout the entire performance. According to the description, “From the creators of Fiddler on the Roof, comes this classic romantic comedy about Georg and Amalia, feuding co-workers in a 1930s-perfume shop. They find solace in writing their anonymous romantic pen-pals, who just happen to be each other. Will their love continue to blossom once they learn the truth? ‘She Loves Me’ is based on a play by Miklos Laszlo, which inspired the classic film, ‘The Shop Around the Corner’ and the blockbuster hit, ‘You’ve Got Mail.’ The whole family will fall in love with this heartfelt, nostalgic masterpiece.”
