Commissioners take personnel problem public
Posted: Thursday, Feb 4th, 2010

CREEDE—The Mineral Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) Monday went public with a personnel matter and then terminated the employee anyway.

Sharrie Hosselkus chose to have a public hearing and was allowed to discuss matters she felt had not been dealt with before the meeting. The commissioners cleared up an issue about when she had been terminated as a full-time employee.

After a short executive session to discuss the matter, the board reopened the public hearing and terminated her employment.

Also at the Feb. 1 meeting, the commissioners met with Colorado Department of Wildlife representatives at their own request.

Rick Basagoitia discussed adding another hunting season. He said the DOW has done a willow study and feels that the number of bulls is a big issue, because they have not been able to reach the optimum sex ratio.

Basagoitia said adding an earlier season will offer an additional opportunity for bulls before they leave the unit. He said the DOW had held public meetings and had received no negative input.

Commissioner Carl Kolish said he was not happy with the new season, but with the way seasons are set now. He said he hates to see them (the seasons) messed with because things are going fine. DOW representative Brent Woodward told the board he would be glad to come in to talk to them at regular meetings if they had concerns.

The mid-month meeting will be on Feb. 16, a Tuesday, because of Presidents Day. The Planning and Zoning meeting will be on Feb. 18, while March 1 will be the next regular meeting for the BOCC.
