Silver Thread Studio Tour set

CREEDE-- To help celebrate autumn in the mountains, the Creede Arts Council is sponsoring the 7th Annual Silver Thread Studio Tour on Saturday, Sept. 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.. This is a self-guided driving tour along the beautiful Silver Thread Scenic Byway in the San Juan Mountains.

Water line replacement continues

CREEDE -- The town of Creede is prepared to begin the next step in replacing the water system.
The water line project started with the first phase that replaced lines under La Garita Street, and the second phase was just recently finished. The fourth and final phase of construction is planned to start in the spring of 2011.

Road dispute may soon settle

CREEDE --The Last Chance Mine access suit that started in 2006 may soon be decided.
Although court action began four years ago, the conflict between the property owners started long before the case was filed. The Mineral County Sheriff has been called to the property and the owners have also taken their concerns to the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC).

ATVs, parades and more on town board agenda

CREEDE-- ATVs came up again Aug. 10 during the Creede Town Board meeting.

Art Park renovation in final stages

CREEDE -- The Creede Arts Council has nearly completed work on the downtown Art Park.
With support from the City of Creede, the Ann Schultz Family Foundation and the Virginia Christensen Fund, they were able to transform the old park into an attraction in the downtown area that will better represent the varied art community found in Creede.

Hecla Rep. discusses Creede mining

DEL NORTE-- Hecla Geologist Randy McClure last week presented a slide show and took questions at the Rio Grande County Museum about exploratory drilling currently being done north of Creede.
The last mining operation pulled out of Creede in 1985 because of low silver prices, although there was still a great deal of silver to mine.
